Statistics and reports sites

www.rsssf.com

If you're after beefing up your soccer databases, I haven't seen much better than rsssf for a comprehensive listing of past games and results, and the team line ups. It covers a huge amount of leagues and competitions as well.

www.football365.com

Easier on the eye and still has a lot of good information, plus articles and news sections too.

www.4thegame.com

Similar to football365; full of reports and general information. The match reports they keep are a useful asset as well.

www.sportinglife.com

More like an on-line newspaper, but their real-time match reports and commentary are decent features.

www.bbc.co.uk/sport

Similar to sportinglife - reliable reports and good real-time match information.

www.livescore.com

About the only one-stop site I've seen that contains live score reports for matches all around the globe. It's pretty much a no-frills site that is only useful for checking the scores of various leagues simultaneously.

Odds-comparison sites

www.betbrain.com

Lots of sports on there. Soccer is well covered and is easy to use. Sometimes they list unreasonably high (or low) prices for some sides and it skews their quick-reference information for the best price available, plus their use of averages for finding the 'most common' price for each team means that these can also be skewed as a result.

As long as you don't rely completely on their quick reference/summary page, and check each game individually, you can weed out the stupid 21.0's and the like, when all the other books are at 2.1 etc. It does the job pretty well otherwise.

www.oddschecker.com

Uses a much smaller sample of books and doesn't include pinnacle. It's still a decent reference guide though.

www.betexplorer.com

Has a good historical amount of data. Just make sure to check the figures quoted to make sure you are getting a reasonable/reliable result - they have some wacky lines mixed in there that can throw off their reports for best price etc. As long as you take the time to check properly it's a very handy site indeed.

Please add any other good sites you might know of and recommend (or severely distrust!), folks.

What kind of market is there for live betting on major leagues? (Premier, WC) I've found these to often be badly mispriced.

Are you talking only about volume available? If so, Betfair has plenty available for the major markets you mention, although 'widely available' (lol) televised games attract the most money overall.

The regular books offering live betting tend to up their hold on live betting from what I've seen, but if you are finding them to be badly mispriced they'd still be a (less desirable) option for you.

If you're talking about specific props or similar, those are somewhat reduced in-game. Markets such as 'first goalscorer' are usually suspended at kickoff, for example, but there are still lots of other markets (over/under total goals, corners, next goal, correct score etc) available.

At the risk of teaching you to suck eggs, an important difference in live AH betting is that at Betfair the quoted AH refers to the full game regardless of the time you bet it at whereas regular books offer an in-game AH that disregards any scores that have taken place up to the point at which you place your bet.
